Strawberry Picking

On Wednesday we went strawberry picking at Welch Farms with some friends. There were 8 moms and 15 kids! I had never been before and my first experience was so much fun. The boys did a great job following the rules and picking the right berries.  Malachi picked three quarts, Elliott picked almost two and Jonas and I picked three. We've been enjoying lots of strawberries with everything! What a fun day to enjoy the beautiful weather and have fun with friends!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend is always one of my favorites of the year. There are a few reasons for this but the top two are, 1. Erik has two days off in a row! and 2. we always attend the Fly-In at Haas Airport. This year was a little rainy at first so there weren't as many planes as usual, but it cleared off and turned into a beautiful day. Because Erik is hurt and not up to his normal 5k speed, he chose to not run the Scott Porter Memorial 5k that he usually runs. Instead we went to my parents' for playtime and a cookout with family and friends. We closed out our day with naps and some family time at home. All in all it was a fantastic weekend!

Elliott's Progress

As Malachi's school year finished up last week I decided it was time to sit down with Elliott and help him learn a few things. He does very well with the alphabet, letter recognition and can spell his name, but we haven't focused much on writing yet. Luckily for him the letters in his name are easy and he was able to learn to write his name fairly quickly. Here's his first solo attempt at writing his name:
We also made a trip to Pickett Run Farms, the Mennonite nursery, to buy a few flowers and plants for our garden. Elliott loved picking things out and helping plant our vegetables. He was so excited to check and see if "his vegetables grew into food" when he woke up from his nap a few hours after planting them! Hopefully he'll be as excited when we can eat the yield!

Missing Friends

Along with summer break for Malachi comes a break from my babysitting job. I am really looking forward to having more time to do things with the boys, but I do think they will miss their friends. In addition to Kylee and Bryson (the kids I normally babysit), we had Malachi's friend, Carson, and his sister, Bella, with us a couple days last week. That made seven kids. Too many for me on a regular basis, but it was fun for a while!

Summer Break!

It's officially summer break! Last week we attended the awards assembly for the year and Malachi received awards for getting straight A's all year and for perfect attendance. We are so proud of how well he has done this year and now we're just excited to have a more relaxed schedule and have lots of fun together!

Field Day 2013

Monday was field day at Paint Valley and I was lucky enough to be able to attend and help out with Malachi's class. The kids played various games, mostly different types of relays or obstacle courses and competed against the other classes in their grade. Mrs. Proehl's class came away with the first grade trophy this year!

The favorite game, the water relay.

First Game

Elliott woke up excited on Friday morning in anticipation of his first Tball game that evening. This is the series of pictures I got when I asked to see his game face:
The Dodgers had a great game and Elliott did very well, but most importantly he had lots of fun and can't wait for his next game tomorrow!

Picnic with Friends

On Monday we had some friends over to play in the morning and then we went out to the Mennonite bakery, Country Crust, to have a picnic. The three of us moms had a total of four 1-year-olds and three 3-year-olds so we quickly realized it wasn't going to be a relaxing or low stress lunch, but at least we were together and had some fun!

Happy Mother's Day!

What a fun day! I am so lucky to have such an amazing mom and mother-in-law and am so thankful for both of them and the examples they give me on how to do this whole mothering thing. And then I have three blessings who call me Mommy...my heart is full today! I began the day with breakfast in bed, followed by a great church service (complete with a photo booth for the moms and their kids!) and then spent the rest of the day in Columbus with my mom, sisters, aunt and cousin doing all kinds of girl things. Doesn't get much better than that!

Tooth Fairy and Other Pictures from Last Week

Malachi finally lost his first tooth last week. It's been loose for a LONG time. So long, in fact, that his permanent tooth was almost completely in behind it! Better start saving for braces now, I suppose.
And because I still can't figure out how to type between all my pictures from the iPad, here are other things that kept us busy last week:
